More Than 1 Thousand Acres Of Esselen Ancestral Land Returned To Tribe

The Esselen Tribe of Big Sur, Calif., numbered perhaps only a thousand people when Spanish missionaries arrived in the 1700s. They were sent to missions to be converted, where most perished from disease.
